What can you present?

All presentation types must be related to at least one of the following topics:

  1. The human microbiome

  2. The environmental microbiome

  3. The animal microbiome

  4. Disruption of the microbiome and its relationship to diseases

  5. Manipulation of the microbiome for preventing and curing diseases

  6. Human host-microbiome interactions

  7. Beneficial microbes/probiotics as next-generation drugs

  8. Engineering probiotics for therapeutic purposes and vaccine carrier

  9. The microbiome from the laboratory to the therapeutic application

Oral Presentations

Our presentations typically have a length of 25 minutes. If you need more time than this, please capture this information in the additional comments section of the form. We do not recommend going over the 25mins unless absolutely required. If so, the conference committee must arrange and approve this before your abstract is accepted.

Short Oral Presentations

Our short presentations have a length of 10 minutes. This presentation type is targeted mainly towards students, to allow them to showcase their work thus far and help prepare them for future conferences.

Poster Presentations

Your posters should be in the standard size of 36 x 48 inches. There ware wooden stands for you to fix your poster to. Please note that you will need to bring your poster and pushpins to fix it. The posters must be set up on the morning of the 12th November and must remain up until the end of the second poster session on the 13th of November.​ For guidance on how to create a well-designed and informative poster, please refer to this post by theonlinescientist.com

Abstract Submission Format

Please use this abstract template as a base for your abstract submission. Do not change the formatting of the template. Additionally, please keep the following in mind:

  • Presenting author and account name must match. Presenting author must be underlined on the abstract.

  • No hyperlinks, comments, text or image boxes.

  • Paragraph breaks between title, author & institute, abstract body.

  • File must be saved as PDF (.pdf)

  • 2500 character count including spaces. Also includes title, authors, affiliations, references and funding.

  • Use a black Arial font with a size of 11 points.

  • For Greek and Scientific Symbols (alpha, beta, gamma, etc.), use the Symbol option under the Insert tab in Microsoft Word (or equivalent option in other applications).

  • Single spacing, one-inch margins, left-justified.

Review & Selection Process

Please be aware that your abstract will only be sent for review after you have registered for the conference and paid the attendance fees. Your abstract submission and registration must be completed before the deadline to be considered.

The conference committee will review all abstracts submitted using our online abstract submission form. The conference Scientific Committee reserves the right to reject low-quality abstracts and those that are not pertinent to the conference's themes. Abstracts will be selected based on originality, novelty, impact with a scoring system of 1 to 10. 

You will be informed in the acceptance email which type of presentation you will give: oral, short oral or poster.

Once your abstract is reviewed, you will recieve an acceptance, rejection or amendment email. Please follow the instructions provided to you by email.
